Registration & Participation
Do I need to pay a registration fee?
No. Participation in the Summer School is free of charge for both on‑site and online attendees.
Are travel, accommodation, or transport costs covered?
Participants are responsible for covering their own travel, accommodation, and transportation expenses.
Can I switch between on‑site and online participation?
Yes. If you need to switch from on‑site to online participation, please notify the organizers before June 10 so we can ensure you receive the correct access information.
Can I register after the deadline?
Late registration may be possible:
- On‑site: Email us after June 10; lunch availability cannot be guaranteed.
- Online: Email us after June 17 to request access.
Event Format
Can I participate online?
Yes. The Summer School can be attended online via Zoom. All registered online participants will receive the connection details before the event.
Will sessions be recorded?
Yes. All sessions will be recorded, processed, and made available to participants approximately three weeks after the program concludes. A link will be shared with all attendees once ready.
Do I need prior experience in machine learning or electron microscopy?
No prior ML experience is required. Basic familiarity with electron microscopy is helpful but not mandatory.
Hands‑On Sessions
Do I need to bring my own laptop?
Yes. On‑site participants should bring a laptop for hands‑on sessions.
What software do I need?
A modern web browser is sufficient. All notebooks can be run in Google Colab or a local Python environment.
Will datasets and notebooks be provided?
Yes. All required materials will be supplied during the school.
Venue & Logistics
Where is the event located?
At the Institute for Advanced Materials & Manufacturing (IAMM), University of Tennessee Knoxville.
Is lunch provided?
Lunch and coffee are provided for registered on‑site participants.
For late on‑site registrations, lunch availability may be limited.
Is parking available?
Yes. Free parking is available at the IAMM building for all on‑site participants. Detailed directions and the exact parking location are provided on the Venue page.
Program & Content
What topics will be covered?
The school covers:

Will there be posters or project submissions?
No. The school consists of lectures, demonstrations, and hands‑on sessions only.
